Barbie Ross, a Houston native with a lifelong Hollywood obsession, spent her childhood watching sitcoms, collecting celebrity autographs, and dreaming of becoming a writer in Los Angeles. After earning a Psychology degree from St. Edward’s University, she began her LA journey, securing film/TV internships and soon after was crowned “TV’s Biggest Fan” by CBS.
Prior to joining the UCLA Screenwriting MFA Program in 2023, Barbie accumulated a wide range of professional experiences; including roles as a personal assistant, nanny, script reader, customer service representative, university communications specialist and social media manager, high school reunion chair, Apple Store specialist, preschool assistant teacher, holistic nutritionist, professional matchmaker, and bowling league organizer.
Barbie writes female-driven TV and feature stories that examine the complex, often hilarious realities of millennial life – focusing on friendships, family, and love. While comedy remains Barbie’s passion, attending UCLA's program has allowed her to explore other creative avenues; writing hour-long dramas and a nostalgic jukebox musical for the stage.
Barbie combines her unique experiences and self-deprecating humor to create grounded stories that make people laugh. Yes... her real name is Barbie.
