Barbie Ross, a Houston native with a lifelong Hollywood obsession, spent her childhood watching sitcoms, collecting celebrity autographs, and dreaming of becoming a writer in Los Angeles. After earning a Psychology degree from St. Edward’s University in Austin, she moved to LA and secured entertainment internships at Anderson Group Public Relations, De Line Pictures, and Universal Pictures.
In 2009, Barbie was crowned “TV’s Biggest Fan” by CBS, winning a trip to the 61st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, and an on-camera running gag with host, Neil Patrick Harris. She is the reigning champion… by default; they never offered the contest again.
Barbie has accumulated a wide range of professional experiences; including more than a decade as a Personal Assistant to a high-profile family, as well as a nanny, script reader, customer service representative, university communications specialist / social media manager, high school reunion chair, Apple Store specialist, pre-school assistant teacher, holistic nutritionist, professional matchmaker, and bowling league organizer.
Barbie is a recent graduate of the UCLA Theater, Film & Television School, with a Master's in Screenwriting. She writes female-driven TV and feature stories that often examine the complex and hilarious realities of millennial life – focusing on friendship, family, nostalgia and love. She combines her unique experiences and self-deprecating humor to create grounded stories that make people laugh. While comedy remains Barbie’s passion, UCLA's program allowed her to explore other creative avenues; writing hour-long drama pilots and a jukebox musical for the stage.
When Barbie isn’t writing, she can be found playing poker with friends, hosting game night, banging on the drums, rallying on the tennis court, cheering at an MLB game or putting her random 90s knowledge to use at trivia night. She’s the aunt to two adorable nephews and is a mobile Notary Public in California.
And yes, her real name is Barbie.
